My family’s secrets will return to the screen in new episodes. The first is to dive into the background of singer Antti Tuiskun, 38.
Although Antti enjoys the Spanish sun, he is basically a northern boy. To the snowy scenery of Rovaniemi Marja Hintikka too leaves to meet the popper.
The results of the DNA test show that Ant’s roots are strongly in the north, but also in Karelia.
Lapp
Antti first directs his ancestor who lived in the 18th century Tuomas Juhonpojan to the roots of the Ounasjoki river. There, in Nivankylä, you will find Tuiskunmäki, where the family comes from.
Tuomas Juhonpoika erected a space for Tuiskunmäki, and the story of Tuisku began.
However, Tuomas’ father was a soldier registered in the Ostrobothnian Infantry Regiment. His roots go all the way back to Karelia.
However, Tuomas Juhonpoja’s mother’s family can be found living in the 17th century Tapani Antinpoikawho was also called Lappish, was a Sámi by birth.
Anttia is particularly inspired by the Sámi connection. No wonder he has always felt at home right in the north.

Dad lied
Also Antin Heikkipapa’s background is of interest. Heikin’s Antti remembers well, since he has been making music with his priest since he was a child.
Antti had already created a career as an artist when Heikki-pappa died.
Antti doesn’t know anything about Heikki’s parents.
It turns out that Heikki’s dad’s mother, Hilda, was a hill dweller, ie employed by another farm. In 1923, she and her husband Matti redeemed their own farm. The following year, Heikki was born. Until the war, the family lived peacefully.
Heikki was only 17 years old when the Continuation War broke out.
– He volunteered for the front in August 1941. In fact, he lied about his age to get there, Hintikka tells Antille.
– Our dad lied his age! Antti is amazed.
In the wrong place
Heikki has preserved documents he wrote about the war. Of the great attack of 1944, he has written, inter alia:
– Tali, Ihantala, Vuosalmi, where I was all involved in the retreat phase, were such hard places that I would never wish my own sons to go to hell like this.
Heikki has described the retreat phase and how he got the shards on his feet. He also wrote about how he saw some soldiers get confused.
Of these things, the priest never spoke to Antti, who now understands how traumatic the war events have been.
Burnt as a reindeer
When German soldiers were ordered to leave Finland, the whole of Lapland was evacuated. Anti’s father Hilda’s mother also had to pack her home in a couple of days.
The Lapland War began. Hilda went to Sweden to evacuate with Heikki’s younger siblings.
– Heikki-pappa came from the second war and then had to go to war in his own village, Antti is horrified.
The Germans burned the whole of Rovaniemi as they retreated. Only 17 buildings remained upright. Heikki-papa’s house in the village of Sinetä was also burned down.
Heikki’s father died the next day after returning from the evacuation.
– He went skiing towards Sinetä’s house to see how it went. He skied 300 meters and had a heart attack, Hintikka says.
– He had seen the destruction of the Rovaniemi township, but never had time to see the ruins of his house, Hintikka continues.
Gratitude
Hilda’s return from the evacuation trip was not very joyful: the home was burned, the man dies.
– How was Hilda able to build the place? That’s unbelievable, Antti says.
It was unbelievable, but it just built.
– Now I understand that there is no need to talk about everything. It has been Dad’s way to move forward and survive. All the time I’ve been allowed to spend with him has been a joyful and bubbling life.
– Today I am even more grateful for everything I have received from him, Antti sums up after hearing about Heikki’s priest’s background.
