Among the best assist providers in Europe
With eight assists, Jan-Niklas Beste is one of the best assist providers in Europe. The Heidenheimer’s top performances were recently rewarded in the Bundesliga’s market value update with an increase of 71.4 percent to 12 million euros – and next year also with a nomination for the German national team?
“I’m currently getting a lot of questions about it, but I still have to smile about it. It’s absurd to talk about the national team now,” said the 24-year-old in an interview with “Swabian newspaper“ and added: “I’ve only played 14 Bundesliga games and played in the second division last year. Even if not everyone believes me, I don’t think about it at all. The whole topic just makes you smile.” With his new rating, the left winger is one of the ten most valuable German offensive players.
Heidenheim’s best far ahead: Europe’s top assist provider in 2023/24
As a look at the Transfermarkt database shows, compared to the top 10 leagues, only three professionals have more assists. Four other players also scored eight times, including Bavarian Leroy Sané (27). “I put the ball down, do my sequence, look up, look at where the ball should go, run, trust my shooting technique and hope that the other guys will then hold out their head or their foot,” said Left-footed Beste his process in standard situations. “It’s probably three longer steps in the run-up and I always have to stand straight for the ball. I always have to have the same approach and the same sequence of steps. Three steps once and then five again, that doesn’t work.”
