Augsburg / Main (dpa) – For the Mainz sports director Christian Heidel, all differences with FC Augsburg due to the corona-related postponement of the game have been settled.
“A lot of what we could read in the media about the situation at the time was complete nonsense,” said the manager of Bundesliga soccer club FSV Mainz 05 of the “Augsburger Allgemeine” (Wednesday edition) before the catch-up game between the two clubs on Wednesday (6:30 p.m./ Sky) in Augsburg. The game was postponed in March because Mainz had 20 corona cases to complain about.
“We didn’t accuse FC Augsburg of anything,” said Heidel. “The only thing we didn’t do was give the request for access to our application to postpone the game with all of our players’ medical data,” said the sporting director. “Such an inspection would have been a novelty that would also have been completely ruled out for legal reasons.” Heidel: “Other allegations were neither explicitly expressed nor brought to us by the official Augsburg side.”
Heidel emphasized that the game transfers were unavoidable despite the debate about free tests. “We would definitely do it again because the health of our players comes first,” he said. All were examined after the free test in the University Medicine Mainz. “The results of this return-to-play check were as different as the virus affected the players. One player has been banned from training to this day due to heart muscle inflammation,” said the Mainz sports director.
