Start at zero
Last year Broers was number two in the Netherlands in the ranking. “But now we’re starting from scratch again,” says Broers. “It’s not just about today’s result, but especially how you perform on average in several major tournaments.” It is important to stay in the game as long as possible every time. This way you get more points and you get higher on the ranking.

Number one
The undisputed number one in the Netherlands from last year comes from Nederweert. The 16-year-old Loranzo Caboni has had a good year and hopes to get high on the ranking again this year. “The ranking is not only determined in the Netherlands. You also have to finish high in major tournaments abroad,” says Caboni. “I’m not very nervous for today, but I do have healthy tension.”

Olympics
The 2024 Olympics will be in Paris. It is the first time that breakdance is part of the largest sports tournament in the world. “I have many goals and I have already been able to participate in many tournaments, but that is currently the ultimate goal,” says Broers.

Qualify
Ranking is important to qualify. But it does not mean that the Netherlands automatically sends a breakdancer to Paris. “No, the Netherlands cannot just send the best to the Olympics,” says Lorenzo. “I think it would be great to represent the Netherlands,” says the 16-year-old from Weert. “But you have to prove yourself internationally and belong to the top of the world.”

It may just be that the Netherlands is not represented, but according to the NK participants, the level here is very high.
