A hedgehog worked himself into a precarious situation in Heerlen on Monday, from which he was unable to get himself out. The spiky animal was stuck with its head in a box.
The Animal Ambulance Limburg took action to free the animal, it says Instagram† It is not stated exactly where that was.
Withdrawing not an option
The hedgehog thought he could get through the opening of the handle. His head was able to do that, but his body was not cooperating. “With so many spines, retreating was not an option either,” the animal ambulance writes. The handle of the box was therefore sawn through with a saw. With that, the hedgehog was freed. But the animal was also not completely well and was therefore taken for a check-up.
Animal Ambulance Limburg regularly has to deal with hedgehogs. Injured hedgehogs are brought in almost daily, it was stated last year. As a result, one shelter was already full. In Born there is a shelter especially for hedgehogs.
