A major explosion has taken place in the Turkish city of Istanbul. This is reported by Turkish media. It is not yet clear what the cause is, although there are already eleven injured. The explosion took place just after 2 pm in the pedestrian Istiklal street in the Taksim district, a busy entertainment, shopping and catering district around Taksim Square in the European part of the Turkish metropolis. According to CNN Türk, panic broke out in the streets and many police, fire and medical teams were dispatched to the scene.
