At temperatures above 30 degrees, the car quickly becomes the heat kettle. This is not only dangerous for humans and animals, but can also damage everyday objects or even become a fire.
Extreme temperatures: When the car becomes the oven
As the ADAC Hessen -Thuringia explains, it will be up to 45 degrees in the car at an outside temperature of 28 degrees at an outside temperature of 28 degrees up to 42 degrees. Temperatures of almost 60 degrees are not uncommon – a study by Arizona State University confirms that hot cars can achieve fatal temperatures in just one hour.
Toddlers and pets are particularly at risk that should never be left behind in parked cars. Shady parking spaces are therefore in demand and difficult to get. If you need to put your vehicle off in the blazing sun, you should not leave certain objects in the car under any circumstances – they can not only be damaged, but even become dangerous.
These 5 objects do not belong in the hot car
Electronic devices such as laptops, cell phones, tablets or power banks can be damaged due to the built -in batteries and, in the worst case, catch fire. When the device flows through the heat and the lithium comes into contact with oxygen, it ignites immediately. Apple recommends, for example, that the iPhone should not be warmer than 45 degrees – even if no fire breaks out, the heat is significantly damaging the battery.
Pressure containers of each type represent an explosion risk. Containers of disinfectants, deodorant or hairspray as well as frost protection or cleaning agents can burst explosively when heated. The same applies to lighters that can then trigger a fire.
Medications are often sensitive to temperature and must be kept and dry. If it gets too hot in the car, the active ingredients can decompose – with the result that the medication either no longer works or, in the worst case, triggers unwanted effects.
Cosmetics and sun protection lose their effects or become unusable. Lipsticks can melt, and sunscreen must not be stored in the heat, otherwise it will lose its protective effect – of all things if you need it most urgently.
Plastic cards such as Girocard, credit card or identity card can deform at temperatures above 60 degrees. The cards then become unusable and must be replaced.
Emergency alternatives and protective measures
If it cannot be avoided to temporarily leave sensitive objects in the car, they should be stowed away in the trunk, where they are protected from direct sunlight. The glove compartment also offers a certain protection.
In order to reduce heating up in the car, the ADAC advises sun protection accessories such as planning and reflective sun protection panels. A fabric towel for the pad on the dashboard and leather seats can also help, as these surfaces can become glowing hot. Standmillation drivers should activate them by app ten minutes before starting travel. Alternatively, they can be ventilated – open all doors for a short moment and let the heat build -up out.
