Last weekend was already extremely hot on the Iberian Peninsula: in parts of Spain, for example, it was already above 40 degrees. The mercury could rise further in the coming days, according to Spain’s national meteorological service AEMET, which has issued a heat wave advisory. For example, in the cities of Cordoba and Zaragoza it can be 43 and 44 degrees respectively.
The heat will spread further north in the coming days and it will be France’s turn. From Tuesday, the heat gains ground in the southern half of the country and maximum temperatures can reach 35 to 38 degrees in the middle of the week. The highest temperatures are expected between Thursday and Friday, according to the French national meteorological service Météo-France. It is therefore possible that a heat wave will occur in France, for which it must be warmer than 25.3 degrees on average throughout the country for at least three days in a row.
Later this week, the wind will turn to the south, causing the hot air to expand to the west of Europe and the Netherlands will also have to deal with summer or tropical temperatures. According to Weeronline, it can be above 30 degrees in the south and southeast, especially on Friday and Saturday. To speak of a heat wave in the Netherlands, it must be above 25 degrees for five days, of which three days are above 30 degrees. The chance of that happening is small for the time being, according to Weeronline, since it will be less warm again on Sunday.
