Heat blog: smog reaches peak • it’s going to be a sticky night

It is already the hottest July 19 ever measured in the Netherlands. This is reported by Weer.nl. At the weather station in Westdorpe, the mercury rose to 37.1 degrees. “The temperature can immediately rise a bit further to 39 or 40 degrees. With this we not only break the temperature records for July 19, even the all-time record from 2019 is approached,” reports the weather service.

In Brabant, Limburg and Zeeland, the mercury can reach 40 degrees. The national heat record from 2019 probably just stands. Weather station Gilze-Rijen noted the historical value of 40.7 degrees on 25 July.

Tomorrow the worst heat will be dissipated quickly. After a sticky night with minimums between 20 and 25 degrees, a strong cooling southwest wind picks up during the day. Rain and thunderstorms will also pass over the country during the day. These can turn out to be fierce with hail, gusts of wind and a lot of precipitation in a short time.
