Hearing on Valieva’s doping affair at the Olympics ended

Beijing (AP) – In the urgent procedure for the starting right of gold favorite Kamila Valiewa for the figure skating individual, the sports judges have completed their hearing at the Winter Games in Beijing and started internal consultations.

As the International Court of Arbitration for Sports announced, the five-and-a-half-hour online meeting ended on Monday at 2:10 a.m. Beijing time (CET Sunday 7:10 p.m.). A decision in the explosive case of a doping offense by the 15-year-old Russian before the Olympics should be announced to the parties to the dispute on Monday around 2 p.m. local time (7 a.m. / CET), the Cas further announced.

The women’s singles starts on Tuesday. The Cas Ad Hoc Chamber only decides whether the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (Rusada) was allowed to lift a provisional suspension of Valiyeva.

The world’s best figure skater had already passed the doping test in December at the Russian championships. The positive result for the banned heart drug trimetazidine was only transmitted by the Stockholm doping laboratory on February 7th, Rusada had announced. A day later, and thus after the end of the team competition at the Winter Games, Rusada pronounced a ban against Valiyeva.

The super talent had previously won gold with the team. After an objection, Rusada lifted the suspension after just one day. Thus Valiewa should also compete in singles. According to the start list, she should be the 26th of 30 participants in the short program on Tuesday.

At the hearing of the three-person Cas committee, Valiyeva was present in the video booth, according to the Cas statement. The hearing took place behind closed doors. The International Olympic Committee, the World Anti-Doping Agency and the World Skating Federation had appealed against Rusada’s lifting of the suspension.
