Health insurance fund will become up to 9 percent more expensive in 2024 | Domestic

For most health insurance funds, membership fees will expire in 2024. Depending on the health insurance fund you are affiliated with, the price increase can amount to just over 9 percent.

The largest price increase is for its members Neutral Health Insurance Fund Flanders. They will see their membership contribution increase from 8.33 euros per month to 9.10 euros per month for 2024. On an annual basis, this represents an increase from 99.96 euros to 109.20 euros.

Bee Helan membership will become 5.26 percent more expensive. It increases from 9.50 euros per month to 10 euros per month.

Bee Solidaris Flanders the increase in the membership contribution is limited to 2.47 percent. From now on it amounts to 8.30 euros per month or 99.60 euros per year, compared to 97.20 euros this year.

The Christian mutuality, still the largest health insurance fund in Flanders, will keep its membership fee unchanged for 2024 at 9.43 euros per month or 113.16 euros per year. Last year she increased her membership fee by 13.20 percent. “Last year, economic reality forced us to increase our membership contribution. Everything became more expensive, including our costs. Before 2024, we have done everything we can not to burden our members even more,” says spokeswoman Clara Vanmuysen.

The liberal mutual insurance companies have not yet released amounts for 2024. “Because they still have to be approved by our general meetings,” says spokeswoman Sophie Lambrechts.

Additional benefits

With the membership fees received, the health insurance funds finance a series of additional benefits for their members. The higher the contribution, the more can be given. This includes interventions in membership fees for sports clubs, extra reimbursements for glasses and dental care and interventions in, for example, vaccinations. Each health insurance fund may put together its own package.

These additional benefits are in addition to the basic task of the health insurance funds: the reimbursement of the costs for medical consultations and medication, which are provided for by law and are the same for all health insurance funds.

Some health insurance funds refer to increased interventions for their price increases. For example, the extra intervention for orthodontic treatments at the Neutral Health Insurance Fund Flanders will increase from a maximum of 1,200 to a maximum of 1,400 euros per two years. At Helan, the reimbursement for corrective glasses with a diopter between 4.5 and 7 for adults increases from 30 to 60 euros. And you will receive 40 euros per year in compensation for costs if kidney dialysis is carried out at your home.

If you want to avoid the costs of a health insurance fund, you can contact the Auxiliary Fund for Sickness and Disability Insurance, a government institution. It only takes care of the statutory reimbursements. There are no additional interventions. An additional disadvantage is that you cannot rely on the intermutual travel assistance organization Mutas if you have problems while traveling abroad.
