Health attributes 2,176 deaths due to high temperatures during the month of July

According to the data collected by the Daily Mortality Monitoring (MoMo) statistics due to excess temperature, we would be talking about about 70 deaths per day during this month due to heat

The high temperatures have left this month of July until 2,176 deathsas estimated by the Carlos III Health Institute (ISCIII), dependent on the Ministry of Health.

Thus, with the latest data collected by the Daily Mortality Monitoring (MoMo) statistic due to excess temperature (from Saturday 30, with 51 estimated deaths), we would be talking about about 70 deaths a day during this month.

Heat waves: an aggravating factor

At a detailed level, the first day of the heat waveon Sunday the 10th, there were, according to ISCIII estimates, 15 deaths attributable to temperature. Since then, there would have been a continuous escalationsince the next day, Monday the 11th, 28 estimated deaths were recorded due to excess temperature.

This data rose to Tuesday’s estimated 41 cases July 12 and until 60 on Wednesday the 13th. The data comes from the ISCIII MoMo system, which makes statistical estimates of excess mortality for a given day comparing historical series.

“Calculates and infers values relative to all causes and attributable to temperature, not exact numbers of deaths. In other words, the figures seen in the MoMo Panel are not deceased persons (it is not a death registry), but the result of the statistical calculation in the form of an estimate. In short, it is not correct to say that this heat wave has caused X deaths of people,” ISCIII sources tell Europa Press.
