Headbutt for Gerd Leers: ‘He wanted to pay’ | 1Limburg

Gerd Leers has filed a report after he was headbutted by someone who claims that the former mayor of Maastricht still owes him thousands of euros.

The incident took place last week in the parking lot of a hardware store in Maastricht. The 70-year-old former mayor and former minister has had a black eye, he tells L1.

The man who handed out the headbutt was no stranger to 70-year-old Leers. Over a year ago, Leers approached the ‘iron farmer’ to help clear out old factories in Maastricht. According to the former mayor, that initially went well. “He would help me clean up the mess and in return he could sell the iron,” says Leers. “But suddenly he came up with a bill of almost 14,000 euros, while we had never agreed that. Of course we did not want to pay that. We never received a reminder.”

In the meantime, Leers has heard nothing from the man. Until last week. “Suddenly he sees me at the hardware store and wanted to settle the bill with me. Then he headbutted me,” says Leers. After the incident, the former mayor filed a report.

Suspect
A police spokesperson tells The Limburger that the suspect has been arrested and interrogated. He’s not stuck anymore.
