The Toksport WRT team, which entered the DTM in 2023 with two Porsche 911 GT3 R and whose future in the series is unclear, is losing the person responsible for technology, Marius Avemarg. The experienced man, who also served as Marvin Dienst’s chief engineer and race engineer, announced this on Instagram.
“Many thanks to Toksport WRT for seven great years,” said Avemarg. “Now it’s time to take on new challenges and say goodbye. Thank you for the trust you have placed in me over these years and for our shared successes.”
Together with Avemarg, the team based near the Nürburgring managed to finish third and second in the ADAC GT Masters in 2020 and 2021 with the Mercedes-AMG GT3. In 2022 they won the title in the Prototype Cup Germany, and in 2023 Christian Engelhart celebrated victory with the Porsche on the first DTM weekend.
The engineer, who according to information from Motorsport-Total.com will remain in the DTM in 2024, suggests that a return to the team is an option in the future. “It’s not a farewell, but a ‘See you later,'” he writes.
In addition to the drivers he worked with during his Toksport WRT era, he would also like to thank his long-time bosses Sadi Emre Buyukbayrak, Seyhun Duru and Serkan Duru. “I am sure we will use the street together again in the future,” he says.
However, it is currently questionable whether we will also see each other in the DTM this year. Because the Toksport WRT team, which started in 2023 with Marvin Dienst and Tim Heinemann after the separation from Engelhart in the middle of the season, is not among the teams that have registered for the 2024 season by the entry deadline in December.
We hear from those around Porsche that it looks as if only the Manthey EMA team will be competing in the traditional series with the 911 GT3 R in 2024. However, registrations are still possible, which is why a continuation of Toksport WRT’s DTM commitment cannot be ruled out even without Avemarg. Nothing is currently known about the team’s GT3 appearances in other series.
