In view of an impending gas shortage, the boss of the Berlin basic supplier Gasag, Georg Friedrichs, has urgently called on the capital city dwellers to save energy.

“We now know that we have to reckon with everything. It is therefore important that we use energy sparingly and that the gas storage facilities in Germany are filled quickly in order to get through the winter well,” said Friedrichs of the “Berliner Zeitung” (Tuesday).

The Gasag boss described the situation as “very serious”. From his point of view, trade and industry in Berlin in particular must worry about whether there will be enough energy available for them in the coming winter.

Customers should save energy

Friedrichs asked customers in Berlin and Brandenburg to reduce the room temperature in the apartments as much as possible from autumn. Everyone should see where their “pain threshold” is.

“Just one degree less room temperature saves up to seven percent in energy consumption. The only request we have: please start immediately, don’t wait for winter – and take it seriously.”

At the same time, the company boss did not rule out that – contrary to what was initially announced – the prices for gas and electricity could be increased again.
