Head coach Lämsä is strict – these are the things Finland needs to improve

The World Cup tournament of the Young Lions is progressing in the tailwind. Latvia fell 3–0.

Tomi Lämsä wants an even better game performance of his own. PASI LEISMA

Finland beat Latvia 3–0 in their third match of the World Cup tournament. The goals of the young Lions did Jani Nyman, Niko Huuhtanen and Konsta Kapanen.

After the loss of the opening game, the head coach got his neck broken Tomi Lämsa was satisfied with a few things.

– We had a good goalkeeping game and the underpowered game was also good.

Kiekko-Espoon Jani Lampinen stopped all Latvian attempts and played a zero game.

– At Alivoima, we have a big role Kalle Väisänen and Sami Päivärinta. Also Konsta and Oliver Kapanen are playing underpowered. In defense Ville Ruotsalainen plays a lot.

Development targets

Finland’s game is developing in the right direction, but the team must be able to do much better next week. That’s when the World Championship medals will be decided.

Finland’s next benchmark is the United States. The game will be played on December 31 at 23:00 Finnish time.

– We still need to improve things related to playing on a small rink. You have to get the puck from the line to the goal. Holding the puck needs to be more careful, we still give up the puck too easily.

And more will come.

– The pucks can’t come to our goal so easily. These things may not play as big a role in Europe as they do here.

Will Kiviharju come?

Defender Aron Kiviharju is with the World Cup team in Moncton, but has not yet played a game. PDO

In the Latvia game, Finland was missing a defender Kalle Ervasti.

– I hope he doesn’t have a long-term problem that requires a lot of effort. I don’t know yet at the moment.

Is it possible that Aron Kiviharju will join the lineup?

– Let’s look at the matter in peace. It depends on Ervast’s situation.

Lampinen has now played two games in Finland’s goal. Aku Koskenvuo played the opening game. The first goalkeeper has still not been decided.

– As I have said before, we have two good goalkeepers, the head coach said on TV5’s broadcast.

A good bet is that Koskenvuo will play against the United States on Saturday. The man plays for Harvard University’s team, and a large part of the USA’s players come from the NCAA college league. That is, from the same series where Koskenvuo plays.
