The Civil Guard mourns a great loss. That of the agent of the Traffic group Damaso Guillendied at the age of 49 after be hit by a hit-and-run criminal in Beifar (Pravia, Asturias). His companions, who will forever remember him as a “happy and outgoing” man, have been struck by the tragedy, which took Dámaso’s life when he was doing his duty escorting a youth cycling event on his motorcycle.
And precisely in the line of duty, he died heroically, managing to prevent the criminal who was fleeing with a stolen car in the opposite direction of the cycling race, after ignoring other agents, from crashing directly into the squad of athletes. “He prevented a major tragedy, If I hadn’t braked against him, if I hadn’t stopped the car, I would have killed the other comrade who was with him and the majority of the squad, which included about thirty cadet boys”, says a comrade.

“He saved many people because, if he didn’t stop the car, he would have taken the peloton ahead”, said the president of the Santi Pérez de Grado Cycling School, Manuel Prieto, organizer of the cycling event, the Santiago and Santa Ana Junior Cycling Trophy. Dámaso Guillén was from Jaén, although since 2008 he had been stationed at the Rubín barracks in Oviedo, in the Traffic detachment. In the city he was a well-known person for his “happy and extroverted” character, rRemember a partner. He was married and his wife works in the operating rooms of the Central University Hospital of Asturias (HUCA). He leaves a daughter. In his memory he leaves a happy memory as a companion and friend, but sad for his premature and heroic departure.
