He took one last drag on his cigarette, looked his enemies straight in the eye and said decisively, “Slava Ukraini,” or “Glory to Ukraine.” And then he was riddled with bullets. Now soldier Oleksandr Matsievskyi is forever commemorated in his home city with a statue in exactly the same pose as then.
