Education denies that a protocol for harassment of the minor in the Jerez stabbing was open
He always arrived very punctual, one of the first, and this Thursday he entered at 8:15, about to start classes at the Elena García Armada Institute in Jerez de la Frontera (Cádiz). As soon as you arrive, before sitting down, He opened the backpack and took out two knives.. “The ones with black handles, kitchen ones, normal ones,” says a student who is waiting at the doors of the center four hours after what happened. He knew clearly what his goal was. He went after another classmate from the 3rd year of ESO, the year they both shared, with the clear intention of stabbing him. He wounded him in the arm. The attacked student ran away. He went to seek shelter in another class, 4th grade ESO, where they locked the door, poured water on his arm and put a bandage on him, says a student from that other classroom. Next door, in another 3rd room, they were singing a happy birthday, still oblivious to an event that shortly after would change the list of all morning television programs. “Imagine that you are waiting to start a math class and this happens,” says another student.
Was the professor of biology who was in the classroom at that time and when she saw that the alleged aggressor was attacking her classmate armed, she immediately went to mediate. She has suffered the most serious injuries and is currently undergoing surgery at the Jerez hospital, although apparently her injuries are less serious than she initially feared and her eyeball is not damaged. . The wounds are more superficial, around the eye and on the eyelid, and there is no fear that she will suffer irreversible damage, the Health Minister reported with relief at the doors of the institute. Patricia del Pozoaccompanied by the director of the center, Rosario Coca, and the mayor of Jerez, María José García Pelayo. There are two other teachers and a student slightly injured, says the official Health report.
There is no open protocol for bullying
The alleged aggressor left the classroom to look for students from another third year of ESO who was next door. The Minister of Education assured that “there is no open protocol for bullying.” towards this student whose classmates confirmed that he had special educational needs but was integrated into the regular classroom, with specialized remedial attention. “I was always alone in the yard.”, say the minors who share the institute with him. Education is collecting the information and the National Police is collecting testimonies, reconstructing the facts and background. Some colleagues of those attacked insist that the day before there was an argument in the patio and that they poured water on the alleged aggressor to mock him. “Don’t come tomorrow,” warned the minor who supposedly went to the school armed this Thursday. The director of the center did not want to confirm this story or if there was any incident that had triggered the attack.
A very nervous voice spoke over the institute’s public address system. The order was to go out to the patio and quickly leave the center. This time it wasn’t a drill. The students claim that they knew that something had really happened because “the head teacher’s voice was shaking.” They had already rehearsed the fire protocol before. Leave the backpacks, leave classes and go down the stairs and go out to the patio without rushing or nervousness, in order. The story of what happened is built with what the students who wait at the doors of the center to be able to pick up their backpacks say, “I have my house keys inside,” or simply because they are still nervous and want to know what is happening, given the swarm of cameras and microphones from all the media deployed to the institute.
“There was blood in the hallway, we were very scared”
Now the center is preparing to resume classes normally and hopes to be able to open the doors again this Friday, although the trauma experienced will last for a while. “There was blood in the hallway, we were very scared,” says another student who is already on her way home. The two teachers who came to subdue the alleged aggressor when he was going to look for his classmates in another class managed to disarm him.. In the struggle they were injured in the head and hand.. “The head wound bled a lot,” says a student while biting his nails.
When the National Police arrived, the student was already without the knife and isolated upstairs. “He was quickly located and transferred to the Jerez police station”, where he still remains in custody before being made available to the Juvenile Prosecutor’s Office. The call that triggered police action and brought officers to the center was received at 8:25 a.m.. Ten minutes before, the minor, whose identity is preserved, took out the two knives from the suitcase.
He Andalusian Health Service (SAS) report that two teachers and a student arrived at the Jerez hospital with superficial wounds. The teacher who intervened to prevent the alleged aggressor from going further is being intervened “due to more complex injuries.” The health centers of Jerez, reports the Ministry of Health, are “prepared to provide psychological assistance to the educational community.”
