The entire Meiland family came dressed up to the Golden Televizier-Ring Gala in 2019 and they won quite a few prizes: they left the room with the most important prize of the evening. Who was conspicuously absent was family friend Caroline van der Eerden, who still had a prominent role in the program at the time.
Television lie
Caroline had just been away from the French chateau where the SBS 6 series started for a month; Much later it would turn out that she had ended up in a fight with Maxime. And in the meantime, everyone in the media played nice. A burnout was given as the reason why Caroline would not attend the TV gala.
The manager of the Meilandjes lied flat out in the media: “The Meiland family and everyone involved in the program understands Caroline’s decision and hopes that she will enjoy this special evening in her own way and all the honor that is certainly hers. .”

Caroline tells in the latest Weekend that it is very different. Just before the gala, the program’s production sent her on vacation. “I was living at a friend’s house, because I had nothing left, and I got a call from the producer. I was overwrought, completely freaked out. They thought I ‘really deserved’ that holiday.”
The real reason? If only she was out of the country… “I was allowed to go on holiday with a friend for two weeks wherever I wanted. But in reality I had to disappear because of the Televizier Ring Gala. Then I went to Turkey with a friend for an all-inclusive week. I would be back in time for the gala.”

She didn’t go there in the end. “Then I received a text from Martien: ‘You don’t have to come to the gala, and if you come, I will ignore you. And I never have to see you again.’ Then I stayed an extra week in Turkey on my own. I watched the gala in my bedroom. I felt terrible.”
Martien recently laughed on TV when he was asked about Caroline, who feels mentally abused. “It’s terrible, isn’t it? I was very ill for three years and then I was laughed at in front of the camera. I had fears, I didn’t dare go outside anymore, nothing at all.”
