The editors-in-chief of NOS Sport announced yesterday that they are stepping down because of the scandal about cross-border behavior at the editorial office. De Volkskrant is currently working on an extensive article about this behavior and Jack van Gelder made up for it last night HLF8 known to play a role in that article.

Jack in the bath

What has Jack been up to? “There was a colleague presenter in 2011/2012 who called me, she says, and I believe that, while I was in the bath. A remarkable story. She then asked if I wanted to be her mentor and then I would have said: ‘If you come and sit with me in the bath, fine.’”

He continues: “Well, that’s a joke to me, but that hit her pretty hard, it turns out. I also worked with her for a while afterwards. She hasn’t been with Studio Sport that long. Later she also visited Ziggo Sport and we just talked to each other there. I didn’t notice anything, absolutely nothing.”

hurt

The presenter in question, who will soon be named in the Volkskrant article but is still kept anonymous, thinks it crosses borders. “Now I understood through the journalist of de Volkskrant that it hit her hard and that I was a kind of icon for her. She was so touched that it hurt her very much.”

He continues: “Maybe it’s a misplaced joke, that’s possible. I often make bad jokes. (…) I sent a DM on Twitter: ‘Listen, I have experienced that it came across completely wrong to you. I find it extremely annoying, I didn’t mean to hurt or frighten you.’ (…) She accepted my apology.”

‘H**r’

The second case with Jack concerns an incident in which he allegedly called a female colleague a ‘h**r’. It was about someone he didn’t want to work with. “A h**r might be a bit harsh, but okay. And that’s it. I said that in 2012. (…) Yes, things got a bit high at the time.”

Jack doesn’t think it crosses borders, but table guest Tina Nijkamp says: “Calling someone a whore, I don’t think that’s normal.”

Jack: “No, it’s not, but I don’t know if I actually said that. It also says in the story, “Or some such term.” I was also very angry, I think. Then I yelled something.”

Flight forward

Wouter de Winther thinks Jack is playing it smart, he says at Jinek. “He is now clearly taking flight, because a publication by de Volkskrant is coming. Perhaps more people will follow and then on Friday no one will talk about Van Gelder, but about the other names that are still in it.”

René van der Gijp can laugh about it in Today Inside. “Then you must have a decent bath if you want to sit in it with Jack, of course.”

Colleague Johan Derksen: “This is another case: they want to discover it too, don’t they? There must be something. This is a joke we make a hundred times here.”

And Anouk Smulders in Shownieuws: “I think that as an adult man of that time you should probably ask yourself over fifty: why do you make such a comment?”
