‘He doesn’t give a damn about the hard-working Dutchman!’

Bas Smit, Nicolette van Dam’s husband, is under fire for slapping the underpaid navvies of KLM in the face. “He shits on hard-working people!”

Schiphol was chaos yesterday, on the first day of the May holiday, because of the strike by the ground staff of KLM. Bas Smit and Nicolette van Dam were also at the airport and feared that their twelfth holiday of the year would fall into the water. Those two just wanted to enjoy the sangria and hate waiting.

mega hero

Fortunately, Bas and Nicolette’s flight was saved by a ‘hero’, namely the royally paid pilot on duty. “We have by far the coolest KLM captain ever! He is simply loading the luggage himself so that his passengers are not inconvenienced. Then you’re just a megahero!”, says Nicolette’s influencer on Instagram.

It is no secret that the term ‘hero’ is subject to inflation, but that you are already a hero if you save Bas and Nicolette’s holiday goes a long way. However, it mainly bothers people that Bas praises a strikebreaker to heaven.

fierce criticism

The criticism is very strong. One of the most liked critical tweets is that of the well-known writer Barry Smit. “It’s great that someone who earns three to six times the average breaks the strike of people who want to earn a little more than eleven euros an hour. If you think this is a hero, you don’t give a damn about the really hard-working Dutchman,” he sneezes.

Such a ‘hero’ leaves his underpaid colleagues out in the cold, says Barry. “Or they went on strike once, in solidarity with the people who wear their backs to fill the planes for 11.37 an hour.”

Barry’s tweet has already received more than a thousand likes.

scumbag

Aviation journalist Yteke de Jong of De Telegraaf also posted Bas’s Instagram post. under her tweet it is full of criticism. “What a scumbag. There is no question of any solidarity with colleagues who work every day against the minimum wage against minimum wages with this fine gentleman,” says Erik, for example.

Pim: “If he also ensures that his colleagues get paid better, then he really is a hero.”

And Patrick: “With a salary four times more than the ground staff, he thanks his colleagues with a stab below the belt.”

bass responds

Bas responds to the storm of criticism. “Just to be clear, this gentleman has respect for his colleagues! He respects that they are on strike and if he has something like that, I’ll pick it up. As it should. He can also blame the strikers, but he thinks in solutions. We should all do that,” he says.

Bas’s post can also count on acclaim, including from KLM itself and from TV millionaire Wendy van Dijk. “❤️it!!!!????”, she says.

In the evening Bas got a slime shower in Shownieuws. Patty Brard thinks he is great, she says. “Bas Smit was very nice, as usual, because I always laugh terribly at him. He put a pilot in the spotlight. That is indeed a superhero!”
