The winter sales start next Monday. “In the fashion retail sector in particular, warehouses will be cleared out in the next few weeks to make room for spring fashion,” said the German Trade Association (HDE) in Berlin on Wednesday.
“In many companies, the current season, the sale of autumn and winter goods and the Christmas business have been rather unsatisfactory,” said a spokesman. The drop in temperature over the past few weeks has been able to stimulate business. However, there is still a large selection of products.
Prices for fashion, shoes, leather goods, home textiles and sportswear in particular would be reduced. Many furniture stores, hardware stores and electronics stores also offer reduced-price goods.
According to the HDE, the WSV usually lasts two weeks. Since 2004, end-of-season sales have no longer been regulated by law. Retailers continue to offer the winter and summer sales (SSV) because many people have planned the traditional sales. (dpa)
