HCAW takes big step towards European Cup semi-final, Pirates a size too small

HCAW got off to a slow start, but eventually won easily against Arrows Ostrava on Wednesday-evening. The baseball players from Bussum are doing excellent business to reach the next round. In an atmospheric Rob Hoffmann Valley, HCAW won 12-0 against the Czechs.

Both teams had won their first game in the group stage, so a victory could be worth gold. The teams didn’t differ much in the early stages, but Delano Selassa put HCAW 1-0 by cleverly running. It wasn’t until the third inning that the runs were scored for host HCAW. With two hits, two walks and a wild pitch, the Bussum-squad led 4-0, then Jaïr van Borkulo hit a homerun with two men on base: 7-0. Ostrava surrendered and HCAW ran to 12-0 thanks to homeruns by Quintin de Cuba and Julian Goins.

Pirates

Amsterdam Pirates lost to defending champion Parma in the other pool. The team from Amsterdam did an excellent job against the Italians and led 5-4 in the ninth inning. Parma then equalized and took the game after all in an extra inning: 7-5. For a spot in the semi-final, Amsterdam Pirates now depends on other results.

HCAW will play its final group game tonight against Bonn Capitals. Amsterdam Pirates will face Untouchables Paderborn.
