HBL: SC Magdeburg remains on course for the title

SC Magdeburg showed a strong reaction after the home defeat against THW Kiel and is back on the road to success on the way to the German championship.

The sovereign leaders of the Handball Bundesliga won in front of their home crowd against TSV Hannover-Burgdorf with 30:22 (14:11). With 46:4 points, SCM is still well ahead of Füchsen Berlin (41:9) on course for the title. The capital club celebrated a 28:23 (10:12) victory at Bergisches HC and passed record champions Kiel (40:10) in the table.

After the clear 25:30 defeat on March 26 against THW, Magdeburg needed around 20 minutes in a duel with Hanover in front of 4702 spectators to get going. In the second half, the favorite turned up the heat and gave the guests no chance. The winner’s best thrower was Omar Ingi Magnusson with eight goals.

The pursuers from Berlin only showed their strengths after the break. The decision came in the middle of the second half when the Foxes pulled away from 18:19 to 25:19 with a 7:0 run within eleven minutes. “I don’t know how we did it. Huge respect for my team,” said coach Jaron Siewert on pay TV channel Sky. The best guest shooters were Hans Lindberg and Jacob Holm with eight goals each.
