HBL: Magdeburg outclasses Lübbecke – foxes on course

The SC Magdeburg handball players are making giant strides towards their first German championship title since 2001. The sovereign Bundesliga table leader also won his catch-up game against bottom TuS N-Lübbecke 38:20 (16:13).

With four games left, coach Bennet Wiegert’s team (56:4) has a clear lead over pursuers THW Kiel (48:10), who have played one game less.

In front of their home crowd, SC presented themselves confidently from the start and increased their lead more and more in the second half. The acute relegation-threatened TuS had no chance. Backcourt player Omar Magnusson was again the best Magdeburg thrower with eight goals.

The foxes Berlin pushed the SG Flensburg-Handewitt from third place at least temporarily. The foxes beat Frisch Auf Göppingen 37:31 (22:18) and with 48:12 points they still have good cards in the race for the Champions League places.

In the table basement, GWD Minden achieved an important partial success against TSV Hannover-Burgdorf. Thanks to Justus Richtzenhain’s goal to make it 26:26 (12:12) 14 seconds before the end, Minden (16:46) made up at least one point against the HBW Balingen-Weilstetten game community. HBW lost against HSG Wetzlar 24:28 (9:13) and remains penultimate.
