The Handball Bundesliga is committed to combating climate change and protecting the environment.
HBL CEO Frank Bohmann signed the United Nations (UN) Sports for Climate Action Framework Protocol last week, whereby the league agrees to concretely support principles and values of the framework related to education and advocacy for climate action.
The Sports for Climate Action Framework was launched in 2018 by the UN Climate Change Agency and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to support sports organizations in pursuing climate protection goals.
“We firmly believe that handball can act as a catalyst for positive changes in our society in combating climate change,” said Bohmann. Among other things, the league wants to record and reduce its CO2 emissions.
Before the HBL, for example, the English Premier League and the North American professional basketball league NBA signed the UN framework.
