The struggling handball champion THW Kiel has suffered its fifth defeat of the current Bundesliga season.
At TSV Hannover-Burgdorf, the defending champions lost 33:36 (17:20) and slipped to seventh place in the table. After just eleven games, coach Filip Jicha’s team has already suffered more defeats than in any of the past five seasons.
The THW got off to a weak start and was 10:16 behind shortly before the break, but came back up to 22:22 in the second round. Then Hannover pulled away again and celebrated a win against Kiel for the first time since February 2018, the best shooter was Vincent Büchner with eight goals.
THW’s next opponent on Sunday is cup winners Rhein-Neckar Löwen. Mannheim won 32:28 (17:15) against SC DHfK Leipzig on Thursday and stayed in touch with the European places. For the Lions it was their fifth win in their fifth home game; the best thrower was national player Juri Knorr with ten goals.
