HBL, 9th matchday: Foxes stay on top, Gummersbach wins confidently

Füchse Berlin have consolidated their lead in the Handball Bundesliga. Promoted VfL Gummersbach managed the fifth victory. MT Melsungen and TVB Stuttgart were also able to celebrate.

In the hard-fought 29:27 (14:14) against Bergisch HC, Füchse captain and national player Paul Drux, who was last absent due to the birth of his daughter Maila, scored four goals. While the foxes continued their strong start with 17:1 points, the BHC is still lagging behind its expectations with 4:14 points.

Only Jacob Holm (six goals) scored more goals on the Berlin side than Drux, who had also recently been absent from the German national team.

Gummersbach beats Minden

Traditional club Gummersbach had already won its home game against TSV GWD Minden on Thursday (October 27th, 2022) by 26:22 (10:7).

With 11:7 points, coach Gudjon Valur Sigurdsson’s team remains bottom of the table. For Minden, on the other hand, it was the ninth defeat in the ninth game.

Strong start of the Gummersbacher

VfL got into the game well and were already leading 7:1 in the 14th minute. In the course of the game, however, the Minden team improved. GWD goalkeeper Malte Semisch made numerous saves. At 13:14 (41 st ) Magnus Holpert scored the goal for East Westphalia. But that ended the intermediate high of the guests, and the Gummersbacher brought the victory sovereign over time.

Zieker decides Swabian Derby

MT Melsungen celebrated a clear 28:18 (18:10) away win at league newcomer ASV Hamm-Westfalen.

MT Melsungen continues to trend upwards. The North Hesse defeated the newly promoted team from Hamm in the Bundesliga without any major problems and climbed further up the table.

In the end, TVB Stuttgart won the Swabian derby thanks to a goal by left winger Patrik Zieker with 25:24 (10:12) at Frisch in Göppingen.
