Hazenhater active in Zaandam? In one week, Marloes sees three skinned hares

A great mystery on the Laan der Vrijheid in Zaandam: in a week’s time three skinned hares were found at the fishing pier. Another one was found yesterday, with the head and legs off. Local resident Marloes Janssen is convinced that this has no natural cause. “I wonder if whoever did this is completely comfortable in his upstairs room.”

“Last Tuesday I saw my dog acting a bit crazy, a bit hyper,” says Marloes as she walks to the fishing pier. “Then I went to look and saw something dead. To my surprise, I saw that it was a hare, with the fur completely off. I thought, ‘what happened here?'”

She cleaned up the hare, thinking it might be the work of a bird of prey. On Thursday, however, it happened again. “I was standing here with others. Then someone else’s dog went to look and then I thought ‘damn: I’m seeing something pink again’. Was it a hare again!” What makes it even more mysterious is that with every find, the mutilations on the hares are worse.

There are pictures of one of the skinned hares, but they are so shocking that we don’t show them here. Marloes has cleared all three hares, but does not get used to it. “With the second I kept walking around with it all day. Yes, your stomach really turns double. You don’t have to eat a sandwich for a while. In the evening I called the animal police. They put me through to the police, for the beast was dead, and there was little they could do.”

Neighborhood survey

A spokesperson informs NH News that the police consider the animals found to be remarkable. “We don’t know if it is a criminal offense.” A neighborhood investigation was launched to find out, but this turned up nothing. Marloes has filed a report. Police hope to find out what exactly happened soon.

“I have also asked the neighbors to see what is happening here in the evening,” says Marloes. “I still have the feeling that it happens when it’s dark, because the hares are found every morning. I hope someone has a camera on it and they just get caught. I’m so curious: why?”
