Hayao Miyazaki returns to animated films with How do you live

TOhe age of 81, Hayao Miyazaki is ready to come back with a new movie: How do you live. This the working title of the cartoon or animated film that will be released in theaters July 14, 2023 (in Japan). The announcement comes from Studio Ghibli.

In truth, after retiring in 2013 – for reasons obviously related to age and age too long production times of his films – Hayao has never stood still. So much so that in 2017 it was revealed that he would participated in the development of a project five years long.

That project is now called How do you live, inspired by the novel of the same name by Yoshino Genzaburō, released in 1937. News that makes the fans happy but also all the occasional admirers of the master.

How do you livethe plot

The protagonist of the novel, then of the film, is Junichi Honda, a bright and popular fifteen-year-old student, nicknamed Koperu, in homage to the astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus. Following his father’s death when he was still a child, he lives alone with his mother.

Despite the loss of the parent, finds a father figure in his uncle. Theirs is a strong relationship, made up of mutual exchanges: Junichi talks to him about his life and his uncle takes the role of adviser, helping him in difficult times.
