Una story of espionage, kidnappings, money and betrayals, which could easily be the plot of a new 007 movie. But reality, we know, sometimes exceeds the imagination, and in this story every detail, even what may seem the most exaggerated, is real.

It starts from a divorce, and it would certainly not make news given how many are signed every day. But you will understand that everything changes when they emerge the names of the two former spouses. He is the Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum, 72, lord of Dubai, prime minister and vice president of the United Arab Emirates, as well as a personal friend of the queen Elizabeth II. She, his ex-wife, is there Princess Haya, 48 king’s half-sister Abdullah of Jordan, defended in the case by the baroness Shackleton, the same appointed by Prince Charles in the divorce with Diana. Three countries are therefore involved in the “crime”: United Arab Emirates, Great Britain and Jordan.
Between the two there is a millionaire divorce, the most expensive ever signed in the whole of the United Kingdom: we talk about 554 million pounds, which correspond to 650 million euros. The High Court of London has ordered the Sheikh of pay this amount to the now former spouse, for the maintenance and safety of children, who live with their mother in England.

In fact, in 2019, women – sixth wife of the sheikh – literally ran away from Dubai with children Jalila and Zayed, which they then had 11 and 7 years (but she was far-sighted: she also took one briefcase containing 39 million dollars) and moved to London. And, in the British capital, the woman lives armored in a luxurious residence with her children, terrified of her ex-husband: he fears that he will kidnap the two boys to bring them back to Dubai.

And, his, it’s not such a far-fetched theory: in 2000 the sheikh had his 18-year-old daughter kidnapped Shamsa, who lived in Cambridge. The girl, had by one of the six wives, was secretly brought back to Dubai and, since then, her traces have been lost: Shamsa has never been seen in public again.

Between threatening poems and betrayals
But the affair is even more complicated, and it really has noir tints. First of all, the sheikh has not too veiled threatened his ex-wife through poems published on his Instagram profile. The verses posted? More than threatening: «Some errors are definite betrayal And you have transgressed and betrayed“. Then, again, “Your time of lying is over and it doesn’t matter what we were, nor what you are. I don’t care if you live or die“. In another he spoke of “sharp swords ready to strike“. And knowing her husband, the woman is really scared.

Not only that: it seems that Princess Haya of Jordan had one extramarital affair with the British bodyguard Russell Flowers, and that this was the real reason for his willingness to divorce. This detail infuriated the sheikh even more, who has no intention of paying this figure to the ex. The noir series, it seems, continues.
