Some hay bales caught fire last night at the driveway of the A32 at Havelterberg. Police and firefighters managed to extinguish the fire together.
The fire started after 1 a.m. The officers present emptied their fire extinguishers, after which the fire brigade finished the work. Due to the fire and the deployment of the emergency services, the A32 from Havelterberg was inaccessible for some time.
Several fires have been started at highways in recent days to protest against the cabinet’s nitrogen plans. This happened, for example, at the Wijk and Hoogeveen, along the A28.
Activists also blocked roads with hay bales and other debris. That went wrong on Wednesday at the entrance of the A32 at Meppel; a motorist collided with the blockade. His car was a total loss. The man has filed a complaint, it was announced yesterday.
