Actor Rufus Beck gave the German “Harry Potter” audio books their variety of voices – but never saw the characters themselves on the screen.

“To this day I haven’t managed to watch a film because I didn’t want my own Harry Potter influenced the way I imagined and interpreted it,” the 66-year-old told the “Augsburger Allgemeine” (Monday).

The films came later to the screen. “I have Harry Potter in my head and I hope I’ve created an acoustic world of my own.”

The voice actor, who was born in Heidelberg, has read all seven volumes of the bestseller series about the boy Harry Potter, who becomes a student at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, as audio books.

“I didn’t really have a plan, just a rough idea of what a character was going to sound like when a new character came along. But actually I decided it very much from my gut,” said Beck.
