Hatchet day at feuding FC Volendam: Jan Smit and board permanently dismissed

Jan Smit has been officially dismissed as chairman of FC Volendam. During the extraordinary meeting of the Supervisory Board, it was decided that Smit and three board members would be removed from their positions. The news had been in the air for several days.

“The Supervisory Board of FC Volendam proceeded to dismiss the board of FC Volendam on Thursday, November 30 during an extraordinary meeting,” the club writes on the website.

In addition to Jan Smit, board members Hans Bond (technical), Gerben Matroos (commerce) and Corn Veerman (treasurer) are also dismissed from FC Volendam. The Volendam Supervisory Board will appoint a new board ‘in the foreseeable future’.

The Supervisory Board already provided an explanation earlier this week for the then threatened dismissal. “Despite repeated requests to submit recovery plans to us, the board has not been able to convince us that these problems are being resolved. In addition, it now appears that there are such divergent views within the management that the functioning of the entire management as a team leaves much to be desired. .”

Accept

Earlier in the day, Jan Smit announced that he would accept the resignation. “The board was already given notice of resignation on Sunday. We have no choice but to accept it. A turkey doesn’t go to Christmas dinner either.” In another post on X he calls the meeting a ‘big play’.
