VfB Stuttgart continued its run and also collected three points against VfL Wolfsburg on matchday 7 of the Bundesliga. After falling behind in the first half, Serhou Guirassy secured a 3-1 win with a flawless hat trick.
Serhou Guirassy, who else?! VfB Stuttgart’s goal guarantor shot his team to the top of the Bundesliga table with a hat trick, at least for one night. The national player from Guinea initially equalized with a penalty kick (67th) in the 3-1 (0-1) win against VfL Wolfsburg, and shortly afterwards (78th, 82nd) he gave the Swabians their fifth win with his twelve and 13 goals of the season in series. Never before has a player scored so many goals after seven matchdays.
Gerhardt puts Wolfsburg in the lead
Wolfsburg, who were initially better offensively, took the lead through Yannick Gerhardt (34′), but in the second half the hosts, egged on by their fanatical audience, turned the game around within a few minutes. With 18 points after seven games, Sebastian Hoeneß’s team set a club record: VfB, with Chris Führich playing another strong game, has never started a season as well as this time.
In the first half the game was evenly matched and possession of the ball was almost evenly distributed. But Wolfsburg looked far more dangerous offensively, Lower Saxony had the better chances, although their striker Jonas Wind initially didn’t make an appearance, nor did Guirassy on the other side.
Stuttgart’s Guirassy is turning up the heat
VfL’s lead didn’t come out of nowhere, but it was aided by a mistake by Pascal Stenzel: While building up play in midfield, he tripped over the ball, which shortly afterwards landed at the free-standing Gerhardt after a rebound: His shot bounced off the inside post and into the net Goal.
After the break, the game suddenly became livelier, the chances increased, Guirassy also appeared more and more often, but his first shot landed in the arms of Wolfsburg goalkeeper Koen Casteels (54th). Shortly afterwards, Hiroki Ito missed (58′). On the other hand, the attentive Alexander Nübel parried against Tiago Tomas (55th).
Stuttgart then became more and more powerful, but referee Daniel Siebert only gave the chance to equalize after checking the triggering scene on the monitor – the fouled Guirassy safely converted. Wolfsburg then retreated further and further, but it didn’t help. Guirassy could no longer be stopped.
