Has your patience run out with Op1 after three years? ‘Put Nieuwsuur on that spot!’

The talk show Op1 still feels like a mixed bag after more than three years. And the ratings? They are much worse than those of predecessors Pauw and Jinek. “Put Nieuwsuur on that spot!”

The time when only a few big talk show stars ruled the late night of Dutch television is long gone. Jeroen Pauw and Eva Jinek used to be the big late-night names of NPO 1, while Humberto Tan was the celebrated man during the late hours on RTL 4.

Op1 still tenable?

Today it’s all very different. The number of presenters of Op1 can no longer be kept up and on the late evening of RTL 4 everyone is mainly busy planning each other’s holidays. cover. The smiling third? Inside today. In 2023, that is still the only really well-scoring talk show.

Back to Op1: is this talk show still sustainable? Only 420 thousand people watched it yesterday. And isn’t there a much better late-night program that deserves a bigger stage? Özcan Akyol thinks so.

‘Move Nieuwsuur!’

At the table at Today Inside, Özcan advocates removing Nieuwsuur from NPO 2 and replacing it with Op1. “I would throw Nieuwsuur instead of Op1 on NPO 1.”

Colleague Wilfred Genee: “Actually, yes. Because every night at Op1 you think: they couldn’t get it full?!”

Johan Derksen: “That time would also be very good. That talk show that NPO 1 has at eleven o’clock, we have ten of them in the Netherlands. You don’t distinguish yourself with that.”

Insanely good

Nieuwsuur is an ‘insanely good’ program that deserves the best stage, says Johan. “I think Nieuwsuur is an incredibly good programme. That is head and shoulders above the rest. That is right in front of us, but I always watch it on the replay in the evening.”

He continues: “I find it incredibly frustrating for those people that all those worthless talk shows and we and Shownieuws and Boulevard have twice as many viewers. I always find it a bit sad for Nieuwsuur that they don’t get what they deserve. I really think that is an excellent journalistic program.”

Wide audience

It seems that NPO 1 will not feel much for this plan. The channel sees a talk show as the ultimate vehicle for addressing a wide audience, because such a program offers a mix of entertainment and information.

Nieuwsuur is much less informal and relaxed in that respect. As a result, people think it fits better with NPO 2, which is intended for a smaller audience that is interested in more depth. It does lead to lower viewing figures: yesterday Nieuwsuur was not even in the viewing figure top 25 with 332 thousand viewers.
