Has China Really Detected Signs of an Extraterrestrial Civilization?

In an article published on June 15, 2022 on the Science and Technology Dailya Beijing-backed newspaper, China says its giant Sky Eye telescope could have detected signs of an extraterrestrial civilization.

Why was the Chinese researchers’ report deleted?

A few hours after it was published, the article was deleted. The report and the findings mentioned in the official article have since been found. Bloomberg succeeded in retaining the main information. According to the American media, Sky Eye, the largest telescope in the world, would have picked up electromagnetic signals which differ from those previously captured by the same team of researchers led by Zhang Tonjie, the chief scientist of a team that devotes its time to researching extraterrestrial civilizations.

The work of this team is co-funded by Peking Normal University, the National Astronomical Observatory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the University of California at Berkeley. The reason why this report has apparently been removed from the Science and Technology Daily (the official journal of the Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology) is unclear.

Other Chinese media quickly picked up the news. Since September 2020, Sky Eye, this giant 500 meter telescope of diameter located in the Chinese province of Guizhou (in the southwest), is officially used to search for traces of an extraterrestrial civilization.

Sky Eye strives to find traces of extraterrestrial life

According to the report, over the past two years the team has already detected two sets of suspicious signals: in 2020 and a few days ago, in 2022. The researchers are interested in exoplanets, those planets which have common characteristics with the Earth and on which we suppose that a form of life can exist. The Sky Eye is extremely sensitive and can easily detect low frequency waves.

This technology plays a vital role in the search for extraterrestrial civilizations according to Zhang Tonjie. Some analysts believe that the signals picked up by the telescope could also be some kind of radio interference and that this requires further investigation. We will have to wait for more information and hope that the researchers will publish an article again with their results about this discovery.
