Joshua Hartmann has smashed the 18-year-old German record over 200 m.
The 24-year-old from ASV Köln won the German Athletics Championships in Kassel in 20.02 seconds. Tobias Unger’s old record since 2005 was 20.20.
“That’s impressive. It means a lot to me,” said Hartmann on the “ARD” microphone. A time under 20 seconds would even have been possible if Hartmann hadn’t raised his arm to celebrate his sovereign victory early on.
Hartmann, fifth at the 2022 European Championships in Munich, improved his personal best by 0.31 seconds in a light tailwind.
