Copenhagen was the scene of a terrible tragedy on Sunday evening. According to the police, at least three people were shot dead in a shopping center in the Danish capital. Several other people were probably injured, three of whom are currently in critical condition, according to official information. The alleged perpetrator is a 22-year-old Dane who was arrested in the shopping center. So far, the police are not assuming an act of terrorism: “There is no evidence in the investigation, documents or testimonies that could prove that it was terrorism”, chief inspector Søren Thomassen said at a press conference. The suspect had had mental health problems in the past and was known to the psychiatric services.
Harry Styles after Copenhagen bloody crime: ‘I’m heartbroken’
Only 650 meters from the shopping center is the “Royal Arena” – where Harry Styles should have played a concert later in the evening. After the deadly shots, the British musician canceled his performance. He wrote on Twitter: “I’m heartbroken, as are the people of Copenhagen. I admire this city. The people are so warm and full of love. I feel for the victims, families and injured people. I’m sorry we couldn’t be together. Take care of each other!”. It can be assumed that some concert goers were also in the shopping center at the time of the crime.
First of all, the organizer had announced on Facebook that the concert would take place in the shopping center despite the shots. However, that was before it became known that there were fatalities. Many users criticized this first decision. The concert was later cancelled.
Members of the Danish executive also commented on the tragedy. Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen characterized the act as “incomprehensible, heartbreaking, pointless”. She further said: “We were all brutally snapped out of the bright summer we had just begun.” The Danish royal family called for solidarity: “The situation calls for unity and care”said Queen Margrethe II and the crown prince couple Frederik and Mary.
Former One Direction member Harry Styles’ third studio album Harry’s House was released on May 20, 2022.
