Harry Styles gave a concert in New York’s Madison Square Garden on September 8th and paid tribute to the Queen during his performance: the Briton asked his fans to give her a big round of applause.
The Queen’s death ended her 70-year reign – no monarch ruled the United Kingdom as long as she did. Styles took a moment to commemorate her with his 20,000 viewers. “There was very sad news from my home country today: the passing of Queen Elizabeth II,” he told the audience. “Applaud with me for 70 years of service. Thank you, Madison Square Garden,” the singer continued.
“She was an inspirational figure”
Elton John also paid tribute to the Queen. At his concert in Toronto on September 8, he dedicated an obituary to her. He said: “She was an inspiring presence – I was around her and she was amazing. She has guided the country through some of our greatest and darkest moments with grace, grace and genuine care and warmth. I send my love to her family and loved ones. We will miss her but her spirit lives on and we celebrate her life with music tonight – OK?”. He then performed Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me (1974) for her. Other names to pay tribute to the late Queen include Mick Jagger, Stephen Fry, Ozzy Osbourne and, very indirectly, The Doctors,
“Don’t Worry, Darling” causes criticism
Styles recently celebrated the film premiere of “Don’t Worry, Darling” in Venice. He stars in the film as Jack alongside Alice, played by Florence Pugh. The thriller made headlines even before its debut, as Pugh claimed he was treated unfairly. Among other things, she would get a much lower fee than Styles from director Olivia Wilde, Styles’ partner. Wilde denied the allegation. “The internet feeds itself. I don’t feel the need to contribute,” she told Variety. The film will be released on September 22nd.
