Warner Bros Discovery is on Wednesday confirmed by, that the Harry Potter book series will be made into a television series. The author JK Rowling, who created the wizarding world, is the executive producer of the TV series.
Warner Bros. Discovery describes the series as a “faithful adaptation” of Rowling’s books. The TV series is shown on the production company’s rebranded Max streaming service. Max combines former streaming services HBO Max and Discovery Plus, and will officially launch in the US at the end of May.
“Max’s commitment to preserving the integrity of my books is important to me, and I look forward to being a part of this new adaptation that will allow for the depth and detail of the narrative in the form of a long-running television series,” Rowling says in a statement.
The stories of each book are to be made into a “decade-long series” with new actors in the lead roles. The grown-up stars of the Harry Potter films, Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint, will therefore not return to reprise their roles.
Warner Bros. has yet to reveal the filming schedule or when the TV series will debut on the streaming service.
Max’s content manager at the press conference Casey Bloys declined to comment when asked if Rowling’s role as an executive producer on the series made it difficult to find actors.
Rowling has been vocally criticized for her stances on transgender issues and has been accused of transphobia. Rowling has repeatedly denied the criticism and accusations she has received.
– The Harry Potter story is incredibly positive and positive, and it deals with love and self-acceptance. That’s our priority – what’s on the screen, Bloys said at a press conference, according to AFP.
– He is the executive producer of the program. His insights will be useful in this project.
