Things are going smoothly for Harry Kane. Now he has been honored for his performance – also because of his commitment off the pitch.

Goal scorer Harry Kane from FC Bayern has been named Personality of the Year by “Kicker”. The captain of the English national team succeeds the former Leverkusen champion Xabi Alonso. Kane developed his value “beyond his individual finishing quality as a team player,” the magazine said in its statement. His running and defensively intensive workload is “anything but natural for a classic goalscorer”.

Kane won the championship with Bayern last season and with it his first major title. In the 2024/25 season he scored 26 goals and was once again the top scorer. But he is also very valued in Munich for more than just his goals.

Bayern’s sports director Max Eberl told the “Kicker”: “If I had to describe Harry Kane in three words, I would have answered earlier: goals, goals, goals. Now we are extremely lucky to experience him every day at FC Bayern – three words are not enough, but if I had to limit myself: down-to-earth, world-class, game changer – and all of that applies at all levels.”

The annual award was first given to Franz Beckenbauer in 1990, and values off the pitch also count. Kane comes across as a “down-to-earth family man without any airs and graces,” said the reason for his choice. With his Harry Kane Foundation, he also makes “a valuable social contribution in the fight against the stigmatization of mental illnesses and in supporting those affected.”
