Harm Edens goes too far with his umbrella joke about Thierry Baudet, says journalist Wierd Duk. According to him, such a joke would never have been made if it concerned a left-wing politician.
Controversial politician Thierry Baudet received a serious blow to the head at the entrance to a Flemish university last week. Some crazy person decided to throw an umbrella very hard on his head. “It’s really not normal. It is really hard,” said comedian Peter Pannekoek this week in Dit Was Het Nieuws.
Umbrella joke
Presenter Harm Edens then makes a lot of jokes about the reprehensible incident. One of them was: “Baudet said he suffered a mild concussion. Oh dear, if only he didn’t suddenly start spouting all kinds of nonsense.”
The idea behind this is that Thierry already does that, of course, but is such a joke appropriate the day after an attack on a politician? Wierd Duk, journalist for De Telegraaf and regular table guest of Today Inside, doesn’t think so. “Also curious about the ‘jokes’ if Jesse or Jetten had been the recipient of the umbrella blow?”, he sneers. X.
Fortuyn
Wierd, who serves a right-wing conservative constituency, is absolutely right, according to follower Lionkatje. “In that case, the state broadcaster would undoubtedly have been filled with deep, emotional outrage and ‘experts’ would even question the use of umbrellas in general.”
Another follower states that Dit Was Het Nieuws would indeed be left-oriented. “You should pay attention to it. There is a joke about Forum in every broadcast of this was the news. I think it’s allowed, but they don’t dare to make a joke about Kaag or Timmermans,” says Corne.
Laughing at attack
A striking detail is that in Wierd’s own program Today Inside there was also laughter about the attack on Thierry, by the audience in the studio. Table guest Rutger Castricum also made a comment about this: “There is laughter here, but I think it is intense.”
Many people see Thierry as a conspiracy theorist. A few years ago, PVV leader Geert Wilders already called him ‘crazy‘. Friend and enemy agree that this should never be a reason to attack someone.
