The Haringvlietbrug will be fully open again from Tuesday evening. The parallel track has been closed since September 2 due to problems with the support beams under the road surface. Rijkswaterstaat had to replace a total of 2500 bolts in those beams because they were no longer good.
Traffic will be able to use the entire bridge again from eight o’clock in the evening after a repair of more than three weeks. Broken bolts were found in the brace connections in early September. A strut is an angled support beam, which supports the overhang of the bridge.
2,500 bolts
The broken bolts have been replaced. Only when Rijkswaterstaat started checking other bolts of the strut connections, they turned out to be no longer as strong as they should be.
It was therefore decided to replace all 2,500 bolts of the strut connections on both sides of the bridge.
Nuisance
The closure of the parallel runway to all motorized traffic caused considerable inconvenience. Road users who wanted to go to the beaches and restaurants, for example, had to use the highway. Pedestrians and (moped) cyclists could cross
Agricultural traffic was only allowed on the main carriageway of the Haringvlietbrug at certain times accompanied by a road inspector. Shipping also had to be careful because there were pontoons in the water with cranes on which they worked on the support beams.
