Wolfsburg (dpa) – VfL Wolfsburg reacted with incomprehension to being the only Bundesliga club to continue playing in front of only 500 spectators this weekend.
The background to this is the decision by the federal state of Lower Saxony not to allow any relaxation at major events such as concerts or football games for the time being due to the corona. That was “difficult to understand”, said VfL managing director Tim Schumacher to the “Sportbuzzer” before the home game against SpVgg Greuther Fürth (Sunday, 5.30 p.m. / DAZN). “It was the goal that there should be uniform regulations.”
Lower Saxony’s Prime Minister Stephan Weil explained the actions of his state government to the Lower Saxony professional clubs on Thursday in a video link. “As soon as the further development is foreseeable, we will be very happy to implement easing in Lower Saxony. At the moment, however, this is not the case,” the SPD politician had already emphasized the day before.
The heads of the state and senate offices have already decided that stadiums and halls across Germany can again be filled with more spectators. According to the decision, up to 10,000 people are possible at large national events outdoors. However, Lower Saxony has not yet included this in its Corona regulation and has therefore already been massively criticized by several professional sports representatives.
“I can’t understand it all anymore. 15,000 spectators in Magdeburg, almost none here, that’s illogical,” said majority shareholder Martin Kind of Hannover 96. “People lose faith in the rules when they’re so inconsistent. “
