Hard to predict again? Not for this company that uses the world’s unique weather model | Tech

The Delft start-up Whiffle was founded in 2015 after years of development within TU Delft. The weather forecasts are made using so-called Large Eddy Simulation models (LES) and their implementation on high performance computing systems. Thanks to this LES-based weather model – unique in the world – Whiffle can make very high resolution and very accurate weather forecasts. The calculations of the weather model are performed on graphic cards (GPUs) and in this way turbulence, clouds and other underlying physical processes in the atmosphere can be included in detail.
