At least forty people have been killed in the explosion of a tanker truck in the African country of Liberia. The vehicle left the road in Totota, central Liberia, on Tuesday.
“People from the area came to the tanker to transfer the petrol,” said a police spokesperson. “Some crawled onto the roof and even used iron bars, but that caused an explosion.”
According to a medical official, more than forty people have died. In addition, dozens of injured people have been taken to hospital. According to doctor Francis Kateh, the death toll is difficult to determine because the bodies are badly burned.
In an initial assessment, the police assumed fifteen deaths and thirty injuries.
