Hard core Ajax lashes out hard: “If Sneijder comes, it will be war”

The rumor that Wesley Sneijder could just start strengthening Ajax’s technical staff this season is, to put it mildly, not going well with the hard core of the club. A few years ago, Sneijder quite openly showed that he felt much more for FC Utrecht and since then the fanatical fans of Ajax have had enough of him.

The Telegraph announced on Sunday that director of football affairs Sven Mislintat had already had several talks with Sneijder about a role in the technical staff. There would not yet be an agreement between the parties, because of the recent death of Sneijders’ mother, the talks have to be continued.

If it is up to the F-side, those conversations will no longer continue. “We will be clear immediately: this fool is absolutely NOT welcome at our club,” the hard core writes on Instagram. “More than three years ago we already made it clear to Sneijder that he is persona non grata. This does not apply to a few pathetic years, such as his two failed marriages, but forever.”

FC Utrecht

Sneijder went through Ajax’s youth academy and made his debut for the team from Amsterdam in 2003. In the end, the attacking midfielder stayed with Ajax for five seasons and played 180 matches. In it he scored 58 times and gave 47 assists. Sneijder, who was loved by the supporters at the time, eventually went to Real Madrid for 27 million euros. The hard core hung a banner with the text ‘Wesley: you remain one of us’ during his farewell.

But that sentiment changed completely among the supporters when Sneijder announced that he did not want to play his farewell match in the Johan Cruijff Arena, but in his hometown of Utrecht, and that he would take a skybox in the stadium of FC Utrecht. The words of praise from the hard core changed to: ‘Wes, the typhus for you’.

When Sneijder then drove past the Johan Cruijff Arena in response to it while he played the number Utereg my town sang along loudly, it was really ready for the hard core. The former Ajax player was written off within the supporters group. With the statement, the F-side wants to make it clear that they do not want Sneijder at the club and that if he does come, they will blame the management.

Mixed reactions

Under the message, which was posted yesterday, the reactions are different. Some agree with the hard core: “Just chase Heitinga away and then get that bat again,” said one of them. “Why should we only hire people with an Ajax past?”, says another.

But there is also a lot of criticism of the statement: “Don’t act like that, clowns”, for example. And: “Sneijder is an asset to the club. Perhaps a little more respect for a player who has meant a lot to the club and may still be able to mean a lot.”
