An F16 from Volkel Air Base makes a test flight on Tuesday. As a result, loud bangs can be heard on the Tiel-Steenbergen route if the aircraft goes through the sound barrier, warns the Volkel Air Base.
“Such a test flight is necessary when major maintenance has been done and must be completed after a certain amount of flight hours. Part of that test is that we fly at supersonic speed, because then you have certain vibrations. Breaking the sound barrier produces a dull bang.” a spokesman for the airbase said.
He understands that it may scare people at this time, because of the war in Ukraine. “But don’t worry, it’s not the Russians. I understand that people are scared now. But we can’t postpone it either. This device is needed when another one is being serviced.”
How loud the bang is depends on the weather conditions. It is unclear what time the F16 will fly exactly.
